Klu Docs

Device info and logout

See the app version, apply pending updates, and unpair the iPad from its branch.

Overview

Klu auto-checks the App Store on launch and whenever the app returns from the background. If a full App Store update is available, the app prompts you to open the App Store; if an OTA update is available, it downloads it and prompts you to restart. This page covers where to check the current version, how to apply a pending update, and how to unpair the iPad from its branch.

When to use it

  • Reporting a bug โ€” you'll need the app version for the support ticket
  • Confirming which version is running (OTA updates may not match the App Store number)
  • Applying a pending OTA update on demand
  • Unpairing an iPad at end-of-life or before moving it to a new branch

How to use it

Video tutorial coming soon
  1. Check the version: on the PIN screen, version and build number are printed at the bottom of every Z-report โ€” print one from the Cash Drawer if you need to share it with support.
  2. Apply an OTA update: when the app shows the Update Available alert, tap Restart the App โ€” the app reloads with the new bundle.
  3. Apply an App Store update: if the alert instead says "A new version is available in the App Store", tap App Store โ†’ โ€” iOS opens the Klu listing for you to hit Update.
  4. Unpair the iPad: from the PIN screen, tap the branch chip at the bottom-left, then confirm Change Branch โ€” the iPad returns to the "not linked" welcome screen.

Tips & gotchas

  • OTA updates are small, near-instant, and don't require an App Store review. Full App Store updates ship when native code or Expo SDK changes are needed.
  • If no update alert appears, you're already on the latest version โ€” the check runs automatically on app foreground, so you don't have to trigger it manually.
  • Unpairing wipes local state on this iPad.
  • The branch chip is the only way to unpair from the iPad. There's no separate "Logout" button; device logout and unpair are the same action.
  • An OWNER in the Dashboard can also fully remove a device card โ€” useful if the iPad is already wiped or lost โ€” see the Dashboard guide on disconnecting a device.
