Unpair or change branch

Disconnect this iPad from its branch — required before pairing to a different one

Overview

An iPad is bound to exactly one branch at a time. To move it to a different branch, unpair it first and then pair it again. The unpair flow is triggered from the PIN screen itself — there is no separate "Settings → Unpair" menu.

When to use it

  • Moving an iPad between store locations
  • Decommissioning an iPad or sending it back for repair
  • Troubleshooting a stuck pairing that needs a clean re-pair

How to use it

Video tutorial coming soon
  1. On the iPad's PIN screen, tap the branch chip (the store avatar + Change Branch label at the bottom-left).
  2. Confirm the Change Branch alert — the prompt reads "Are you sure you want to unlink this device from this branch?".
  3. The iPad returns to the welcome screen showing This device is not linked to a branch and the Scan QR button.
  4. Follow Pair the iPad to pair it to the new branch.

Tips & gotchas

  • Unpairing does not automatically close an open shift — close the shift from Cash Drawer first, or the Dashboard will show a dangling open shift that an admin has to force-close.
  • Only an OWNER-level user can fully remove the device card from the Dashboard afterward — see Disconnect a device.
