Create and switch tabs
Name a tab, park it, and resume it later on the same iPad
Overview
Tabs are live carts โ each one is a customer, seat, or order that's in progress. You can keep many tabs open at once and switch between them freely. Switching preserves everything in the cart, so staff can juggle multiple customers without losing state.
When to use it
- Multi-customer service (cafe, bar, or dispensary with a queue)
- Starting an order now that the customer will settle later
- Parking an order mid-flow to help a walk-in who's in a hurry
How to use it
Video tutorial coming soon
- In the Home header, tap the tab selector box โ a dropdown shows Select a Table and Create Table.
- Pick Create Table โ a compact input slides up with a Tab Name field and quick suggestions (customer's name, your name, or the next numbered tab).
- Type a name or tap a suggestion, then tap Save โ the tab becomes active and the cart opens for it.
- To switch, tap the tab selector again and pick Select a Table โ a page with every open tab appears.
- Tap any tab card to make it active โ its cart contents load instantly.
- Each tab card shows the tab name, item count, and assigned customer (if any).
Tips & gotchas
- The button label in the create-tab sheet is Save, not Create โ the dropdown option that opens it says Create Table.
- Tabs persist on the iPad even if the cashier signs out and a different cashier signs back in.
- There's no explicit "hold" action โ switching to another tab or clearing the selection parks the current one. It stays in Select a Table until you delete it.
- Tab names are free text โ use customer names, table numbers, or anything staff will recognise.
- The suggestions include
{customer}'s Tab,{employee}'s Tab, andTab #{number}โ tap one to pre-fill.
