Edit or delete a category

Update a category's fields or remove it from the catalog.

Overview

Editing a category updates every product assigned to it (color, group, VAT flag, etc.). Deleting removes the category and unlinks its products — products don't disappear, but they lose their category assignment and need to be reassigned.

When to use it

  • Renaming a category or changing its color
  • Moving a category into a different group
  • Removing a category that's no longer in use

How to use it

  1. Open Categories.
  2. Find the category in the table and open its row action menu.
  3. Click Edit to open the form with current values — update any fields and save.
  4. Click Delete to remove the category. Confirm on the modal.

Tips & gotchas

  • System categories (e.g., Cannabis Flowers) can't be deleted or renamed. Their action menu omits the Delete option.
  • Deleting a category unlinks products from it — the products stay in the catalog but show no category until you reassign one.
  • Editing the VAT toggle doesn't rewrite historical sales — it only affects future transactions.
  • Toggling Cannabis on an existing category also affects its products: they gain strain profile support and roll into Cannabis Flowers analytics from that point on.
  • Changing color immediately updates every badge across the dashboard and iPad POS.
