Open a shift

Start the day with a counted opening cash balance on this register.

Overview

Opening a shift tells Klu what cash was in the drawer at the start. Every transaction from that point forward runs against this shift, and no sales can be rung up until a shift is open.

When to use it

  • First thing on arrival, before taking the first sale
  • After someone closed the previous shift
  • After a device reset or re-pairing

How to use it

Video tutorial coming soon
  1. From the side menu, tap Cash Drawer.
  2. Tap Start Shift.
  3. Count the cash physically in the drawer.
  4. Enter the counted Starting Cash on the numeric keypad.
  5. Tap Confirm โ€” the physical drawer briefly opens for verification.
  6. The Cash Summary panel now shows Starting Cash at the top, and the Home screen is ready for sales.

Tips & gotchas

  • Count cash BEFORE entering the starting cash โ€” this number is the source of truth for the shift's expected closing balance.
  • If you're unsure of the correct balance, ask a manager to check the previous shift's closing cash in the Dashboard.
